17th San Francisco Arts Medallion: Celebrating John Adams

With his unparalleled talent and unwavering commitment, Pulitzer and Grammy award-winning composer, conductor, author and mentor John Adams has profoundly impacted San Francisco's performing arts culture. Adams's collaborations with the San Francisco Symphony, where he served as its first Composer-in-Residence and wrote and premiered seven works, and the San Francisco Opera, which has commissioned and premiered four of his operas, have continually redefined artistic boundaries, infusing our city with a fresh and innovative artistic pulse. The Arts Medallion will take place at the magnificent St. Joseph's Art Society, a venue founded and designed by Ken Fulk in 2018, dedicated to celebrating arts and culture in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Since 2019, this exquisite setting with a shared mission has served as the backdrop for the Arts Medallion, providing a captivating atmosphere for performances and celebrations. The event features an elegant cocktail hour, remarks by honorary chairs, and a special performance representing the work of John Adams. St. Joseph's intimate setting offers a unique way to experience the honoree's work. Michael Tilson Thomas and Joshua Robison, long standing friends of John Adams, have graciously accepted the roles of acting honorary chairs for the upcoming event. Now, more than ever, we believe that the Arts Medallion can be a beacon of hope and inspiration during these challenging times for our city. It's an opportunity for us to come together, celebrate the arts, and pay tribute to those who have profoundly influenced our cultural heritage. The funds raised during the Arts Medallion allows MP+D to continue our important work of preserving Bay Area performing arts history. MP+D’s initiatives aim to foster a deeper understanding of San Francisco Bay Area’s artistic heritage and the enduring legacy of its performing arts institutions.
