"MAN ON FIRE" Lecture by author Douglas Egerton at Museum of Worcester

“Mr. Egerton’s biography,” wrote a Wall Street Journal review, “is a welcome picture of a man who battled inequality on a wide range of fronts and maintained relationships with some of the most interesting people of the era…Douglass, John Brown, Lucy Stone, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Mark Twain.” A significant voice in the antislavery and women’s rights efforts of mid-19th century America, Higginson’s mid-century presence in Worcester as minister of the Free Church on Front Street had enormous impact. “Toward the end of his life, he declared, ‘Let me memory perish, if only humanity may be free. This book,” writes the Wall Street Journal, “makes sure that Higginson’s memory is preserved.” Books will be available for purchase following the lecture, courtesy of TidePool BookShop. This event is FREE and open to the public!
