Titanic Tea at Hearthside House Museum

Hearthside House Museum announces its annual signature event, the elegant afternoon tea on Saturday, May 11th. The theme of the Titanic is featured at this year's tea. There are two seatings offered at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m., with just a few left at 12:30. Tickets are only available in advance for this event and must be purchased before May 5th. The event is an elegant First-Class Afternoon Tea. Featured during the tea will be a special presentation by the ship's "Captain Smith" about the grand ship of the White Star Lines, the world's most famous ship. "The Titanic's fascination has endured since 1912 with its opulence but also its tragic ending," states Kathy Hartley of the Friends of Hearthside. "The focus during the Tea though is not on its sinking, but rather the sheer magnificence of this "Ship of Dreams" and the elegance its passengers enjoyed during its brief journey in 1912." The elegance of afternoon tea as it was served in the Titanic's tea salon includes delectable savories of miniature sandwiches and scones, along with dainty sweets, all beautifully arranged on fancy serving dishes set upon linen and lace, and accented by fresh flowers at every table. Music that was played on the Titanic will add to the ambience. The event will also host a raffle, tour and prizes, and the gift shop will be open for purchasing. The Afternoon Tea is a perfect outing with friends or family for a Mother's Day weekend celebration, or for history buffs, or tea aficionados, and appeals to both men and women. The volunteer museum staff will be outfitted as both passengers and crew of the ship. Guests are invited to join in the spirit of the event by dressing in the era of 1912 as the first-class passengers on the ship would have done. Fancy hats or tiaras are encouraged, although not required. Prizes will be awarded for the best interpretation. Following the Tea, guests are welcomed to a self-guided tour through the museum's upper floors. The event is a fundraiser for the all-volunteer Friends of Hearthside, whose mission is to preserve, protect, interpret and promote the 200-year old mansion as well as the other 19th century properties at the Great Road Heritage Campus.
