On Feb. 26, First Parish Church of Stow & Acton (FPC), Unitarian Universalist, will hold a service on decolonization and how “white saviorism” is demonstrated in literature and film from early films all the way through to “The Help” and “Avatar.” We’ll look at popular entertainment, but then all the way into our stories within our own UU faith. How does knowing this change how we work towards decolonization?
The service will be held at 10 a.m., both in the sanctuary and online, and led by FPC’s minister, the Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum. Masks are required in the sanctuary, with the exception of the balcony. To enter the virtual room, go to tinyurl.com/22-23fpc. The online room now offers closed captioning; use the button at the bottom of the screen to ask the host to turn it on. To prevent disruptive intrusions, the virtual room will be locked about 15 minutes after the service begins. FPC apologizes for any inconvenience this causes.
FPC warmly welcomes gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. For information about child care and religious education classes, contact FPC Acting Director of Religious Education Marissa Evans at [email protected]. FPC’s facilities are wheelchair accessible. For more information, call 978-897-8149 or visit www.fpc-stow-acton.org. The church is located at 353 Great Rd., at the corner of routes 117 and 62, in Stow.
