Hills of East Quabbin Ride
The second annual Hills of East Quabbin Ride fundraiser tours multiple communities in rural, central Massachusetts, giving participants beautiful views of active farmlands, deep woods and classic New England town commons. The ride features a 23.1-mile Short Loop (2,100 feet of climbing and one section of unpaved Mass Central Rail Trail [MCRT]) and a 46.4-mile Long Loop (3,800 feet of climbing and includes two sections of dirt road or MCRT), passing several EQLT preserves.
Open to all ages, bike riders registering on or before May 30th will receive $10 off their registration fee, after which general registration will be $70 per rider. Online registration is available through June 13th at www.eqlt.org/hills-of-east-quabbin-ride and in-person on the day of the event until 9:00 a.m. All proceeds will go to EQLT and support its mission to fostering the sustainable use and conservation of farmlands, woodlands and waters of Central Massachusetts.
The ride starts and ends at Farmer Matt’s restaurant and farm store, 860 West Brookfield Rd., New Braintree. After the ride, locally sourced Farm-to-Table food is available. Riders will receive a $5-off coupon for a hamburger, hot dog or veggie burger with a choice of sides from Farmer Matt’s.
Both the Short Loop and Long Loop rides include a rest stop at the East Quabbin Land Trust’s headquarters, 120 Ridge Road, Hardwick, with bathroom facilities, water and snacks to refuel, as well as sweeping views of the Ware River valley.
Other tour highlights include passing EQLT properties: Wendemuth Meadow (25 Bates Street, North Brookfield), Mandell Hill (660 Barre Road, Hardwick), Deer Park Preserve (Barre Road, Hardwick), Patrill Hollow Preserve (Hardwick Road, Hardwick), Pynchon’s Grist Mill Preserve (165 Wickaboag Valley Road, West Brookfield), and Eva’s Woods (Ware Corner Road, Oakham).
Start times are flexible, with the Long Loop ride heading off around 9:00 a.m. and the Short Loop ride heading off around 10:00 a.m.
