Illuminations in Casting: Free Q&A with Arts Industry Professionals


Join us for this free Q&A with industry professionals highlighting the role casting plays in the arts. December 1st 2023, 4:30 pm Doors Open! Refreshments & Mingling December 1st 2023, 5:00 pm Discussion and Q&A with Panelists Join us for a FREE panel discussion and Q&A that delves into the pivotal role of casting in the entertainment industry. Our esteemed panelists will shed light on the intricacies of casting and address questions such as: What does a casting director do and what qualities are they looking for in auditions? Who ultimately makes the final decisions in casting? How does the representation of diverse voices and faces in the arts impact and enrich our communities? Panelists include Sabrina Avilés, Michael J. Bobbitt, Kristie Raymond, Livy Scanlon and Troy Siebels. This event is hosted by The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee, with special guests from the theatre’s annual production of A Christmas Carol. Our hope is to create space for discussions centered around inclusion and representation in the arts. Co-moderators Annie Kerins and Alka Nayyar will help lead these conversations. All ages and experience levels welcome. Meet the Panelists: Sabrina Avilés, Independent Filmmaker and Founder/Executive Director, CineFest Latino Boston Michael J. Bobbitt, Executive Director Mass Cultural Council, Theatre Director, Choreographer and Playwright Kristie Raymond, Founder of HumanKind LLC Casting Livy Scanlon, Artistic Director of The Hanover Theatre Repertory and Managing Director of the Worcester BrickBox Theater at the Jean McDonough Arts Center (JMAC) Troy Siebels, President and CEO of The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory As this event involves a Q&A component that is looking at the entertainment industry from the DEIB lens, race may be discussed in terms of unhealthy casting practices which may be may be triggering or sensitive to some audience members. We are happy to accept headshots, resumes and/or reels from artists who attend.
