The ancient Egyptians created stunning jewelry in a wide variety of materials, from metals such as gold and copper to glass and semi-precious gemstones. A new exhibition at Glencairn Museum, Sacred Adornment: Jewelry as Belief in Ancient Egypt, features pieces that tempt visitors to explore how both the living and the dead of this ancient culture used jewelry to adorn, to protect and to express devotion to the divine.
The exhibition opens in Glencairn Museum’s Upper Hall on Saturday, February 29, and runs through Sunday, November 1. Visitors can view it Tuesday through Friday as part of the 2:30pm guided castle tour or by appointment; on the weekends, Sacred Adornment is open 1-4:30pm without an appointment, by donation. Admission to this exhibition is also included with events. Glencairn Museum is at 1001 Cathedral Road, Bryn Athyn 19009.
