The renowned show choir, the Upper Darby Summer Stage Shooting Stars, will perform seasonal favorites in a series of sparkling song and dance performances designed to delight children and adults alike.
Get ready to celebrate “the most wonderful time of the year” with the Upper Darby Summer Stage Shooting Stars, featuring performers from 18 local high schools, as their annual “Holiday Spectacular” returns, overflowing with song and dance that is sure to put anyone in the holiday spirit.
Presented by the Upper Darby Arts & Education Foundation, the Shooting Stars' "Holiday Spectacular" will take place on Saturday, December 16, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 17, at 2:00 p.m., now at the Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School, located at 403 North Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill.
The audience will be treated to high-energy, Broadway-style numbers amid a winter wonderland setting of Christmas trees, gift-wrapped packages and cherished holiday memories. The 90-minute production features arrangements of favorite holiday classics including “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Carol of the Bells,” a “White Christmas” medley, a Hanukkah tribute, "Sparklejollytwinklejingley" from Elf the Musical, and many more.
Tickets are affordably priced at $15 and $18 and can be purchased by visiting https://udsummerstage.org. Conveniently located minutes from the Main Line, Blue Route and Center City, the performance venue offers free parking and is wheelchair accessible.
Many area families attend the performance every year, making it their own cherished holiday tradition. “A lot of people tell me once they see the show, that’s when the holiday season really begins,” said Shooting Stars Director Kevin Dietzler. “I’m proud of the hard work and effort that members of the Shooting Stars and the production team have put into rehearsals for the past several months to prepare this really outstanding show– it’s all worth it to keep that tradition alive.”
The Shooting Stars' “Holiday Spectacular” performances follow their appearance in the Philadelphia 6ABC Thanksgiving Day Parade, where they performed the parade's opening and closing numbers.
The Shooting Stars are a dynamic show choir that represent Upper Darby Summer Stage and share the magic of live performance with audiences from across the Delaware Valley all year long. This auditioned group features performers from 18 different local high schools that share song and dance numbers that celebrate community and the power of an ensemble. The Shooting Stars have performed at countless community events and have been featured at the 6ABC Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Rose Tree Summer Festival, Disney World, Longwood Gardens and more.
Sponsored by the Upper Darby Arts & Education Foundation, the Shooting Stars are year-’round ambassadors of the Upper Darby Summer Stage program, which provides musical theatre experiences for around 700 young people ages 11 to 28 and produces a series of high-quality children’s theatre performances for all ages every summer.
