Austrian hills - and homes, cathedrals, and royal courts - resounded with music in the 16th century! This concert is an opportunity to hear the past come to life: popular music from Salzburg and grand, gorgeous works composed for the Imperial court in Innsbruck, sacred music from an early Lutheran partbook and hits from the Italian dance craze that swept the nation. All will be performed on Piffaro’s one-of-a-kind collection of recorders, shawms, dulcians, sackbuts, and other Renaissance wind instruments. As a special treat, organist Matthew Glandorf will rekindle the spirit of Paul Hofhaimer, the famed keyboard improviser dubbed the "First Organist to the Emperor," on Christ Church Christiana Hundred's glorious Brombaugh Opus 32 organ.
