Film Screening and Discussion United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Jews and Christians lived in harmony in the idyllic city of Kastoria, Greece, for more than two millennia. When Axis forces took control of the city in October 1940 the Jewish community remained safe under Italian rule. But Italy’s surrender to the Allies in September 1943 spelled doom for Kastoria’s Jews. Germany took control of the city and implemented the “Final Solution.” This documentary film uses never-before-seen archival footage that is now in the Museum’s collection, vibrantly bringing to life just one of the many Jewish communities that existed in Greece before World War II.
