In his lecture, Paul Jaskot, author of "The Architecture of Oppression: The SS, Forced Labor and the Nazi Monumental Building Economy", will argue for the importance of spatial analysis to the study of the Holocaust. Focusing on Auschwitz and the SS camp system, he will incorporate perpetrator documents about the built environment; survivor testimonies concerning construction as forced labor; and digital mapping of the camp and camp system to produce an integrated history of how the Holocaust happened and was experienced.
SPEAKER
Paul Jaskot, professor in the Department of the History of Art and Architecture at DePaul University and the Andrew W. Mellon Professor at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art.
