The 3rd Annual "Raising Visionaries" Young Artists' Award Ceremony

The Third Annual Rising Visionaries Young Artists Award Ceremony Hosted by the National Youth Visionaries Association (NYVA) Held at the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. On May 18, 2025, the National Youth Visionaries Association (NYVA) hosted the Third Annual Rising Visionaries Young Artists Award Ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., celebrating youth creativity, cultural dialogue, and community empowerment. The event was honored to receive letters of recognition from several distinguished figures who were unable to attend in person, including: The Honorable Glenn Youngkin, Governor of Virginia Mrs. Suzanne Youngkin, First Lady of Virginia Ms. Yue-Sai Kan, Founder of Yue-Sai Cosmetics, Cultural Ambassador and Author Ms. Colleen Dugan Messick, Executive Director of the Virginia Commission for the Arts Their messages offered powerful encouragement to the students, highlighting the transformative role of art in shaping identity, bridging cultures, and expressing vision. In her letter, Ms. Kan emphasized the importance of youth embracing their heritage while imagining the future—especially during AAPI Heritage Month, a poignant backdrop to this celebration. Ms. Messick expressed admiration for the students’ reflections on both technology and tradition through the lens of art. The ceremony was also joined in person by a stellar lineup of guest speakers and award presenters: Ms. Yuyan Zhou, President of CAPA Nova Ms. Karina Hou, President of the International Forum Dr. Julia Guo, Founder and President of VSA Education Center Ms. Sinikka, International Artist and Painter Mr. Guy Djoken, Executive Director of the UNESCO Center for Peace Mr. Stuart Holt, President and CEO of ArtsFairfax Ms. Yingxi Zhao, Co-Founder and President of NYVA Youth Leadership Mr. Tim Zhao, Commissioner of the Arts for Virginia, and Co-Founder & CEO of NYVA and Smart Art Education Together, these voices formed a collective message: that art has the power to unite, to teach, and to elevate. Their speeches encouraged students to remain fearless in expressing their truths and courageous in shaping their generation’s narrative. The event’s title, Rising Visionaries, captured not only a theme but a movement. For NYVA, it represents the mission to empower youth to engage with the world through art, inquiry, and leadership. Students were invited to create works around two dynamic themes: “AI and Me” and “The Silk Road.” Through “AI and Me,” students examined the influence of artificial intelligence in everyday life—questioning what it means to be human in a digital age. Through “The Silk Road,” they reflected on the legacies of trade, migration, and cultural exchange, connecting centuries-old history to today’s global realities. Many students explored how art can be a bridge between technology and heritage. More than 60 young artists were recognized with awards for their extraordinary talent, insight, and creativity. Their work spanned mediums and messages—and some students represented families from across three continents, making this event a truly global celebration of youth voice. Whether painting, sculpting, or presenting their thoughts, the students embodied the values of vision, courage, and connection. Rising Visionaries reminds us that when young people are nurtured and heard, their creativity becomes a force for change. Their stories matter. Their art matters. And their time is now. As we celebrate the success of this year’s ceremony, we also look ahead with purpose and pride. NYVA remains committed to empowering youth to discover who they are— and to use that discovery as a foundation to build a more inclusive, thoughtful, and beautiful world.
