Midwinter Story Time at Scrawl Books


Join us on Saturday, February 17 at 11AM as we welcome Hanh Bui, Zara González Hoang, Vicki Johnson, and Rashin Kheiriyeh! They’ll be reading a variety of picture books that are sure to warm you from the inside out. Check out their books & order ahead here: https://www.scrawlbooks.com/event/midwinter-story-time ABOUT THE AUTHORS Inspired by her first teacher at a refugee camp, Hanh Bui pursued a master’s degree in early childhood education and taught second grade before becoming a full-time mother to three children. She also served as a development officer for Senhoa Foundation in support of women and children who survived human trafficking in Cambodia, and has served on boards supporting children and parents in building community. Hanh’s commitment to celebrating her heritage includes giving presentations in school visits about her refugee experience to children studying immigration as part of their school curriculum. She serves as co-chair of Equity and Inclusion Team for Mid-Atlantic region of SCBWI, and has been featured in Highlights Children’s Magazine and Next Avenue. The Yellow Áo Dài is her debut picture book. Zara González Hoang grew up in a little bungalow in the frozen tundra of Minnesota. great white North. Surrounded by snow she spent her days dreaming, doodling, and listening to the colorful stories of her dad's life growing up in Puerto Rico. These days, she lives outside DC with her family. Vicki Johnson was born and raised in rural Georgia where she spent her days reading, listening to the radio, and sweating. She is a Lambda Literary Fellow, a proud first-generation graduate of Smith College and Emory Law School, and a student at Vermont College of Fine Arts where she is pursuing her MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults. Vicki lives in a historic log cabin in West Virginia where she tends to her three cats, two dogs, and one college kid. She never wears dresses. Rashin Kheiriyeh is an internationally recognized, award-winning illustrator, author, animator, and painter who has more than 20 years of experience in publishing and broadcasting. She has published more than 90 children’s books in many countries and has received numerous national and international awards, including the Sendak Fellowship Award. Kheiriyeh is the character artist of the most popular Iranian animated series, Shekarestan (Sugarland). She was born in Iran but now lives in Washington, DC.
