The Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) is excited to present its annual production of "The Nutcracker," showcasing the exceptional talents of Molly Scannell and Meredith Odegard, both seniors, in the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jacob Anderson as the Cavalier. Notably, Molly Scannell, alongside her role, will be partnering with the distinguished Guest Artist Oliver Greene-Cramer.
Oliver Greene-Cramer, an alumnus of the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, Class of 2013, has distinguished himself with performances in the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Ballet Austin, the Los Angeles Dance Project, and Twyla Tharp Dance. His career includes an impressive range of works from choreographers such as Pam Tanowitz, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, George Balanchine, and others.
Meredith, Molly, and Jacob have returned from a prestigious international experience at the Fonteyn Competition in London. This honor came as a recognition of their exemplary achievements earning a distinction in their Advanced 2 Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Examinations. Under the expert guidance of Lesley Shearer, an RAD examiner and director of MSA's Ballet Program, these students have been meticulously prepared for such high-caliber events. Remarkably, out of 79 dancers at the competition, only 15 were from the United States, and MSA proudly had four dancers represented, underscoring MSA’s distinguished training.
As seniors, Molly, and Jacob are not only leading roles in the production but are also preparing for professional careers in the performing arts. Molly's summer included training with the Bolshoi Ballet and the Royal Ballet, while Jacob honed his skills at the New York City Ballet Intensive. Both Molly and Jacob have been attending the Day Time HIgh School Academy at MSA.
This year's Nutcracker production, set for December 9th and 10th with performances at 12 PM and 5 PM daily, will be held at the beautiful Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall in Alexandria. The show will be directed by Jacqueline Doherty, founder and director of the Metropolitan Youth Ballet, the resident youth ballet company at MSA.
In addition to the performances, we will cultivate a festive atmosphere with a holiday market where seasonal gifts are available for purchase.
