Death Cafe

At a Death Cafe, people, often strangers, gather together to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. The objective is "to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives". A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. There is no intention to lead anyone to any conclusion, product, or course of action. It is an open, respectful and confidential space, where people can express their views safely. NOTE: This is a discussion group rather than a bereavement support or grief counselling session. The Death Cafe model was developed by Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid, based on the ideas of Bernard Crettaz. Lizzy Miles ran the first Death Cafe in the U.S.
