28th Southern Maryland Rock, Mineral and Fossil Show Saturday October 5, 2024 from 9 to 4
The 28th Annual Southern Maryland Rock, Mineral and Fossil Show is truly unique as it is the only such show held in all Southern Maryland. Located at 3074 Crain Highway next to the JayCees Hall, thousands of specimens of rocks, minerals, fossils, lapidary creations and handcrafted jewelry will fill the old Waldorf School. From the sophisticated collector to the newest beginner, all will find wonderful items to fit any budget. Sponsored by the Southern Maryland Rock and Mineral Club, the show will give free rocks and minerals to every kid.
At this family friendly event, free door prizes will be awarded every 30 minutes. A large tent display of rocks that glow in brilliant colors under ultraviolet light will be open for free viewing. Something for everyone --- beautiful crystals, top quality minerals, awesome rocks from local sources as well as around the world, excellent fossils, exquisite jewelry, and creative lapidary designs. Perfect for gifts. A great way to spark the interest of those youngsters studying earth science and geology in school.
For convenience, a food truck will be on site. Free parking. Be sure to download the $2 off admission coupon on our Southern Maryland Rock and Mineral Club website at “SMRMC.org”.
Have you ever found a shark’s tooth? Did you know it is a “fossil” that is millions of years old? Some people have found fossil shark’s teeth along the tidal beaches in our area that are as large as your hand. Did you know that petrified wood is also a fossil and can be found locally? Our club members also find fossil bones and teeth of porpoises and killer whales. Have you ever seen a crystal of quartz that is water-clear and flawless? We have dug them directly from the mines in Arkansas on a club field trip. Our club takes Field Trips almost every month and many are to private locations such as commercial rock quarries that can only be accessed through our rock and mineral club. Have you ever seen a meteorite up close? You can see one and hold one and maybe even buy one at our show. Do you know what “lapidary” means? Have you ever owned a piece of jewelry that was made from a rock that you found? We have some club members who are experts at tumble-polishing rocks which are used to make incredibly gorgeous jewelry. You can learn more about our club at SMRMC.org. And if you join our group of 120 members, you might find that perfect crystal. You can also follow us on Facebook at Southern Maryland Rock and Mineral Club.
