Audubon Afternoon: Birds of Colombia

Join us on Sunday afternoon for our quarterly live Audubon Afternoon at the National Wildlife Federation Building, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive in Reston. We’ll gather informally starting at 2:30 so you have an opportunity to reconnect with everyone. We welcome any food and drink you would like to share with everyone during the informal portion of the program. At 3:00 PM we will have a presentation from our Board President, Libby Lyons on birds of Colombia. Colombia is currently home to 1958 bird species (80 are endemic), and comprises approximately 20% of all bird diversity worldwide. Colombia's rich biodiversity is due to its unique combination of geographic and topographic features unshared by any other country in the region. Libby will share about her travels to Colombia, highlight some of the beautiful endemic species there as well as those species we share with Colombia. Participants will learn why Colombia has so many bird species and how birds connect us across country boundaries. Birdathon begins April 19! After the program we will have an interactive break-out activity to help our members connect with others who live in the same area. Groups will break out by county and brainstorm to make a list of the top birding locations in each county. We hope this activity will help facilitate our members to find new birding friends and maybe even Birdathon teammates!
