GOOD TROUBLE, offered by Woodbridge United, July 17, 4-7 pm, Lake Ridge Commuter Lot
GOOD TROUBLE is a nonviolent community rally and protest to help defend our rights against the escalating attacks on them from the Trump administration. We're gathering at the Lake Ridge Commuter Lot on Thursday, July 17, from 4-7 pm. "Good Trouble" honors the late Congressman John Lewis' legacy of promoting equal human rights and political change through nonviolent civil resistance.
During the rally, we'll also sponsor a food drive, and offer teach-ins: free, 30 minute, informal drop-in classes covering relevant topics including:
- your rights and the Constitution
- community action against ICE
- protest self-protection, and
- small space victory gardens.
Our extreme weather location is the Akida Coffeehouse, just across the street in the lower level of Tackett's Mill.
Food Drive: please bring non-perishable items, as your circumstances allow, for area food pantries. For this event, we are prioritizing a local church with outreach to those who are too afraid to go to a food pantry.
GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON is a national day of nonviolent action responding to the attacks from the current administration on our civil and human rights. From voter suppression tactics like the SAVE Act, to the criminalization of protest itself, the Trump administration continues its escalation of a full-scale assault on our civil liberties. We are taking action to remind them that, in this country, the power lies with the people.
July 17 is the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis' passing, so that day was chosen to work together to carry forth his legacy of Good Trouble in defense of our democracy. This is more than a protest; it is a moral reckoning. We'll continue the movement that Lewis helped lead, and carry it forward onto a new front in the struggle for freedom.
