Free Herndon High School Band Concert

The Pride of Herndon band is offering a free concert in gratitude to the community for supporting their recent Tag Day Fundraiser. The concert will be held on October 30th at 7:00pm in the Herndon High School Auditorium, 700 Bennett Street in Herndon. “We would like to thank the public for supporting our annual, door-to-door fundraiser,” Band Director Kathleen Jacoby, said. “We realize there are many choices when it comes to donating, and we are so grateful to our community for their generosity. Tag Day contributions help pay for concert programs, music, uniforms, instrument maintenance, invitational performances, and master instructors.” The award-winning Herndon High School Band offers a comprehensive music program including Marching and Jazz Bands, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, Indoor Drumline and Indoor Guard. “As you can imagine it is expensive to run such an extensive band program, and we aim to offer the program to every student”, Ms Jacoby said. The Tag Day Concert will be free and open to the public. There’s something for everyone in the program. The Wind Ensemble will perform notable works by Domingo Ortega and John Mackey, as well as Appalachian Folk Songs - while the Marching Band will play a medley of crowd-pleasers from AC/DC, Queen and Madonna - to Grease, the Rise of the Pink Ladies! Outside of this concert, a full and varied calendar of performances is scheduled throughout the year. These concerts not only entertain the audience with inspiring and patriotic music, but also provide invaluable performance opportunities for the students involved. The Pride of Herndon band also shares the gift of music further afield, and has represented internationally. This year they will remain in the USA and travel to Hawaii to represent Virginia in the 2023 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade on 7 December. “Come join us on October 30th as we say thank you in a very musical way!” Ms Jacoby added. “Your generosity means everything to us and to the community we serve.” ___________________________ Established in 1947, award-winning Herndon High School Band is rightly known as “The Pride of Herndon” and celebrated its 75th Anniversary last year. The band program includes Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Indoor Drumline and Indoor Guard. The band has not only achieved myriad awards and honors and represented internationally - but instilled a love of music in countless students.
