CONCERT: Wash. Metro. Philharmonic presents MOZART & THE MOVIES! In Alexandria on Feb. 4th at 3 pm

This concert blends the worlds of classical music with iconic film scores. W.A. MOZART‘s popular “Concerto for Flute and Harp” features WMP artists, Crystal Lee and Heidi Sturniolo. Pulitzer Prize Winner CAROLINE SHAW ’s “Entr’acte” for string orchestra was inspired by the classical traditions of Haydn’s minuets but perhaps in technicolor. From Hollywood, BERNARD HERMANN’s “Scene d'Amour” from Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller 'Vertigo' is sure to jog some movie memories. The program concludes with ERICH KORNGOLD‘s music from the film “The Sea Hawk” – a score that continues to captivate listeners for a heroic, swashbuckling victorious finale. Please join Music Director Anna Binneweg as she conducts these emotive pieces, and afterwards for free “After Chats” to discuss the program and meet the artists. The next WMP concert will be March 24 featuring Thomas Pandolfi playing a 100th anniversary celebration of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and other All-American works. WMPA is a performing arts organization with a history of over 50 years whose mission is to enrich, inspire, and educate through live performances of high-quality music. WMPA is comprised of five major programs, including Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic, Washington Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (grades 9-12), Washington Metropolitan Concert Orchestra (grades 6-8), and the Lyceum Chamber Music Series presenting weekly Sunday concerts throughout the summer at Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum. The Lyceum series will enter its 34th season.
