Join us for a day of history and fun as we celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Fort Washington. Fort Washington was built to replace an earlier fort on this location, and construction of the fort was completed in fall 1824. Fort Washington continued to be one of Maryland's coastal defenses and army installations through WWII before it was turned over to the National Park Service. This celebration will celebrate the anniversary and the fort by showcasing the different era's of the fort's history as an army installation including the Civil War and WWII when Fort Washington was the location of the Army's Adjunct General's school. The event will include special programs, music, 19th century dance and dance lessons, re-enactors, music, kid's activities, exhibitors, art classes, canon firings and more... We encourage picnicking and there will also be food on site for sale. Additionally, the Park Bookstore run by Eastern National will have 200th anniversary merchandise for sale to commemorate the event in addition to history books about the fort and a special 200th anniversary commemorative passport stamp.
