Bull Run Watershed Management Plan

The purpose of the WMP is to inform efforts to reduce flood risks, protect water quality and support the long-term health of the watershed. The meeting will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 6:00 pm at the Dulles South Senior Center, Charlotte Nurge Room, 24950 Riding Center Drive, South Riding. The meeting will feature an open-house format, beginning with a brief presentation and opportunities for community residents to talk with county staff and subject-matter experts in smaller breakout groups. In addition to the county sharing information about the project, the meeting will also serve as an opportunity for residents, homeowners associations and other stakeholders to share local knowledge and identify potential partnership opportunities. Residents will be invited to provide comments about flooding concerns, existing stormwater infrastructure that may need maintenance, and any interest in collaborating on possible projects, such as stream restoration or constructed wetlands, that may be evaluated as part of the plan. The Bull Run watershed covers 28.6 square miles and forms the headwaters of the Occoquan Reservoir, a regional drinking water supply. The plan will apply hydrological, hydraulic and water quality data to identify potential stormwater infrastructure projects that could improve watershed resilience. This effort will help meet the county’s Chesapeake Bay and local sediment reduction requirements and plan for continued growth in the area. The Bull Run Watershed Management Plan project is funded in part through a $250,000 grant received from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Community Flood Preparedness Fund.
