Through the Fire is an immersive cultural experience highlighting the survival stories and creative expressions of two men shaped by three decades of life in DC; one a former firefighter, the other a formerly incarcerated artist and filmmaker. Their paths may differ, but their shared purpose is to give back tools of resilience, transformation, and self-expression to the city that shaped them.
This event is part of an interactive documentary project supported, in part, by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) and Humanities DC. It celebrates how personal style, storytelling, and lived experience come together to form the cultural fabric of the city.
Guests will experience:
A fashion-as-identity segment that explores what it means to “wear your survival”
An art unveiling that reframes the image of returning citizens
A mindset workshop offering practical “resilience drills”
A fireside conversation on survival, identity, and community in DC
Interactive stations where attendees express their own fire, fury, and fashion
Through the Fire is designed for DC residents, creatives, students, caregivers, and anyone navigating the pressures of life in a rapidly changing city. We hope to provide not just a show, but a space for real connection, healing, and community building.
