Spies, Mystery, and Suspense with Local Authors. Meet I.S. Berry, K.T. Nguyen and John Adam Wasowicz

Busboys & Poets in Shirlington welcomes three local, crime fiction authors — Edgar Award winner I.S. Berry, 2024 debut K.T. Nguyen, and John Wasowicz, author of the Old Town Loves Mystery series — for a discussion of espionage, suspense, and mystery on Thursday, October 24, at 6 PM. The program will be moderated by WETA Classical’s Nicole Lacroix. Berry’s “The Peacock and the Sparrow” recently won the prestigious Edgar Award for Best First Novel and the book has been selected as a New Yorker & NPR Best Book of the Year. A story of an aging spy who becomes embroiled in murder, consuming love, and the tumultuous Arab Spring, “The Peacock and the Sparrow” has been called an “instant classic” (Paul Vidich, author of “Beirut Station”) and “the most realistic espionage story I’ve read” (Joseph Weinberg, creator of “The Americans”). Former magazine editor K.T. Nguyen’s debut psychological thriller “You Know What You Did” has received praise from People Magazine, CrimeReads, Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Book Riot, Parade, Elle Magazine, The Seattle Times, and The Telegraph. She is a proud member of Crime Writers of Color, Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and International Thriller Writers. “Spite House” is book seven of the Old Town Loves Mystery series begun by Wasowicz in 2017. The series takes place in Arlington and Alexandria and features Mo Katz as a criminal defense attorney and former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. “Like the four spite houses in Old Town, “Spite House” is a local treasure” (Jeffrey James Higgins, author of “The Forever Game”). Berry, Nguyen, and Wasowicz are all local authors residing in the D.C. metropolitan area. The authors will be signing copies of their books at the event. WETA Classical’s Lacroix, who will moderate the program, narrated one of the books in the Old Town Loves Mystery series, Slaters Lane. Busboys and Poets Shirlington is located at 4251 Campbell Avenue in the Shirlington section of Arlington County.
