LOUD and CLEAR: WOMEN’S VOICES across TIME

During March ---- Women’s History Month --- Capital Harmonia will bring the words of women poets, the music of women composers, and the stories of women’s life experiences to our audiences. Our performances will feature music written to the words of a satirical poem by suffragist Alice Duer Miller that women should never study algebra but keep their spirits pure, and words of courage to deal with life’s challenges from scientist Marie Curie. The music of composer Joan Szymko will explore the complexity of women’s experiences. Set to music, the poetry of Sara Teasdale will focus on the wonder of life and beauty of the world. Recent compositions by Reena Esmail and B. E. Boykin will remind us to listen to each other and be of one united voice. Together, this music will provide audiences with an overview of women’s voices across time: Loud and clear resistance to being silenced and insistence on appreciating each other.
