True Tales of Old Alexandria

Ted Pulliam will discuss two chapters in his recent book, True Tales of Old Alexandria. Attendees will learn about a remarkable Englishwoman who, in 1654, becomes the first European to own land in what would become Alexandria. Ted will also highlight the British navy’s experience as they sail up the Potomac River during the War of 1812 to loot defenseless Alexandria. However, when the British must sail back downriver, Alexandrians take their revenge. Ted’s articles have appeared in several national magazines, the Washington Post, and other publications. He is author of Historic Alexandria: An Illustrated History, published by the City of Alexandria. InTrue Tales of Old Alexandria, Ted brings to light a collection of stories from the history of the city and the surrounding area from 1623 to 2018. A current member of the Alexandria Archaeological Commission and Alexandria African American Heritage Trail Committee, Ted also is a past member of the AHS Board and the Alexandria Waterfront Commission. He is a graduate of Davidson College and Columbia University Law School and lives in Del Ray with his wife, Molly. Doors open at 6:30. Tickets are available at the door - $5 for non-members and free to members of the Alexandria Historical Society. Memberships can be purchased or renewed at the event.
