This year’s ceremony will feature Lieutenant General Mike Shields, U.S. Army (Retired), as the guest speaker. LTG Shields served over 35 years in uniform, commanding at every level from platoon to theater-level organizations. His distinguished career included service as Commanding General of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Commanding General of U.S. Army Alaska, and Director of the Joint Improvised-Threat Defeat Organization (JIDO). His leadership in combat and joint operations around the world reflects his lifelong commitment to national defense and the welfare of soldiers and their families. The ceremony attended by local, state and national officials will include the traditional presentation of colors in remembrance of those who gave their lives in defense of freedom.
Following the ceremony, the public is invited to meet local veterans and learn more about the missions of both the American Legion and the VFW.
“Veterans Day is a time to honor all who have worn the uniform and to reflect on their contributions to our nation,” said Eric D. Parkhurst, Commander of American Legion Post 177. “We are proud to join our comrades from VFW Post 8469 to celebrate this day of unity and gratitude.” The event is open to the public, and all veterans, families, and community members are encouraged to attend.
