Gut, Wind, and Wire is an instrumental trio formed by founding members of the internationally acclaimed early music ensemble The Baltimore Consort. The ensemble features Ronn McFarlane on lute (Gut), Mindy Rosenfeld on wooden flutes, fifes, and pipes (Wind), and Mark Cudek on cittern (Wire), bass viol, and percussion. Their performances draw from Renaissance music of the British Isles and the European Continent, along with early and traditional Celtic music. Centering on the popular music of those eras, the trio illuminates the deep roots of today’s folk traditions. Their programs also include original compositions by Grammy nominated lutenist Ronn McFarlane. The members of Gut, Wind, and Wire have performed together for 44 years, beginning as founding musicians of The Baltimore Consort in 1980 and continuing through a wide range of ensembles and projects. They have also appeared as a trio of guest artists with Apollo’s Fire, the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra. Throughout their long collaboration, they remain dedicated to outreach, sharing early music with students of all ages and skill levels as a core part of their mission.
