CAN Superhero Challenge

The Child Advocacy Network (CAN) is hosting the 11th annual Superhero Challenge obstacle course and fun run from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Bixby Washington Irving Park. The Superhero Challenge includes a mile (for kids ages 6 and up) or half mile (for kids 5 and under) course with approximately 10 age-appropriate obstacles dotted along the route built and monitored by the professional team at Young Lions Obstacle Course. In addition to the courses, all attendees will have access to Superhero Village where music, inflatables, post-race snacks, and kids’ activities, including Saint Francis’s Bear Clinic, await. Multiple start times for each course are available throughout the day and courses can be repeated as many times as desired for the one-time course entry fee of $30. The event gives families and corporations an opportunity to spend the day together engaging in healthy, fun physical activities while raising awareness and funds to support an organization that serves a vital role in protecting the community’s most vulnerable population. “Besides being an incredibly fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon with your family, this event is a wonderful opportunity for us to partner with other community organizations, spread awareness about CAN, and raise funds for the critical work we do,” said Maura Guten, president and CEO of the Child Advocacy Network. Thousands of Oklahoma children suffer abuse and neglect each year. According to the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services, during the calendar year 2023, there were 14,273 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect across the state including 2,666 cases in Tulsa County of which 1,629 were reviewed by CAN. For these cases, the multi-disciplinary team at CAN was able to provide trauma-informed wrap-around services, and care for children following a traumatic event to provide hope and healing. The Superhero Challenge helps CAN raise much-needed funds to support the multi-disciplinary team, child-focused approach to child abuse investigations at no cost to families. By offering all the investigative services under one roof with the child’s welfare and emotional well-being as the focus, CAN helps to reduce the trauma for children and their families involved in child abuse investigations. The race registration fee is $30, which includes a t-shirt (size guaranteed if registered by April 18) and finisher gift. Online registration is available at www.cansuperherochallenge.org until midnight on April 29. Onsite registration will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4 payable by check or credit card (no cash). Additionally, there are options to participate as an organization by signing up your entire corporate family. Details on how to participate as a corporation can be found on the event website at www.cansuperherochallenge.org/corporate. The event is made possible by generous sponsors including Centere Technologies, AAON, Nabholz, ONEOK, Saint Francis Health System, the Sharp family and Trinity Strategic Wealth, among others. Individuals who would like more information about sponsoring or participating in the CAN Superhero Challenge can find all the details at www.cansuperherochallenge.org.
