Ballet Rincon presents The Dancing Princesses

Ballet Rincon is honored to present the Premiere of the new ballet, The Dancing Princesses, May 31st and June 1st at the beautiful Vail Theatre of the Arts! Based on the Grimm's Fairy Tales story The Twelve Dancing Princes, first published in 1815, beautiful music and choreography come together for the first time to tell this enchanting story. In a kingdom lives a King and his six daughters. The Princesses sleep every night in the same bedroom, the doors to which their father locks every night. Each morning, the King unlocks the bedroom door to find their shoes completely worn out as if they danced in them all night The perplexed King promises that any man who can solve the mystery may choose to marry any one of his daughters and inherit his kingdom. A handsome soldier hears of the King’s challenge, and on his way to the kingdom meets a mystical Fortune Teller. She warns the Soldier not to drink the wine the princesses will give to him, and to pretend to be fast asleep until the princesses leave the castle, then to follow them. When he arrives at the castle, the Youngest Princess comes and offers him a cup of wine. The Soldier pretends to drink the wine and slumps in his chair, snoring loudly as if he were asleep. That night Princesses dress themselves in fine dancing gowns and escape from their room, heading to an enchanted forest, reigned by Sylvia, the Queen of the Faeries. The Soldier follows. They all walk on until they come upon a great celebration in the forest. With each swirling waltz the Soldier and the Youngest Princess come closer and closer together, until they realize they are in love. Sylvia presides over their forest wedding ceremony, and they all dance the night away, and until their shoes are quite worn out. The sun begins to rise, and the Soldier and Princesses dash back to the castle. The King appears, and together they tell him the truth of their adventures. The King is pleased to have the mystery solved and in the news of the marriage of his youngest daughter. In an instant, Sylvia and the Enchanted Forest appear, and all rejoice in the happy day, as the two separate worlds become one.
