Barrio Olvidado: Build Meaningful Miniature Models

These places were special to the local community for various reasons. They contributed to the spirit of the city and made it unique. It may be a shop that you liked, a café that you visited often, or your grandparents’ house. The objective of this workshop is to create a scale model of a fictitious neighborhood that keeps the stories of these places alive. We will talk about why they were important to us, and we will have an opportunity to relive those memories. The buildings will be of a standard size to fit on lots. They will be made out of foamcore. Attendees will receive the flat walls to build and decorate their building. Additional items like signage, railings, windows, and doors will be available to them. Some will be 3D printed; for others, we will provide materials so attendees can work on what they want. This workshop is aimed at people with minimal to some experience working with small hand tools like X-Acto knives and tweezers. It will take place between Saturday and Sunday. Each participant's individual building will contribute to a collective neighborhood of Tucson, shaped by their personal memories.
