Light Like a Pro - Photography Workshop for HS Seniors
Light Like a Pro is a 3-hour hands-on studio lighting workshop designed for high school seniors who want to learn how professional photographers light a shoot.
You won't just watch a demo — you'll build lighting setups from scratch on a professional cyclorama wall, direct a live model, and walk out with portfolio-ready images for your collection.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Key light — Your main light source. Learn how to position and modify it to shape your subject's face.
Fill light — The light that controls your shadows. Find the balance between flat and too dark.
Rim light — The separation light that makes your subject pop off the background. This is what makes a portrait look professional.
Model direction — Work with live model Katie Yelifari and practice giving
clear, confident posing cues. Most photographers don't develop this skill until years into their career.
Building setups — You'll start with an empty cyc wall and build your lighting setup piece by piece so you understand why each light goes where it does.
YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Chris Berry is a commercial portrait photographer based in Southern Arizona.
He's a Fujifilm ambassador with over 10 years of experience shooting for
brands, publications, and private clients. He breaks down pro lighting techniques into steps that make sense — no jargon, no fluff.
THE STUDIO
The Creative Yard Arizona is an 800 sq ft professional studio with a cyclorama wall, pro lighting equipment, and everything you need for a real studio experience. Located at 460 W Roger Rd, Suite #103, Tucson AZ. Free parking on site.
All studio lighting and modifiers are provided. Just bring your camera (any brand, any level).
TICKET OPTIONS
Standard ($25) — The full 3-hour workshop. Learn lighting fundamentals, direct a model, and leave with portfolio-ready images.
Plus ($55) — Everything in Standard, plus a 1-hour studio session voucher at the student rate ($55/hr). Come back on your own time to practice, shoot portraits, or build your portfolio.
