TUCSON, AZ - December 2, 2024– Celebrate the art of glass and the magic of the season at the Sonoran Glass School Winter Open House, happening on Saturday, December 7th, from 9 AM to 5 PM. This FREE community event invites you to explore our unique studios, discover the beauty of glass art, and shop for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts crafted by local artisans.
Sonoran Glass School’s specialized studios will be open for the public to explore, each showcasing a distinct aspect of glassmaking:
Hot Shop: The heart of molten glass artistry, where visitors can see the tools and environment that bring vibrant sculptures to life.
Warm Shop: Home to the transformative processes of kiln fusing and slumping, where glass is heated and reshaped.
Flame Shop: Focused on the detailed craft of torchworking, where glass rods and tubes are manipulated into intricate designs.
Cold Shop: The final stop in glassmaking, where pieces are refined through cutting, grinding, and polishing.
For those eager to try their hand at glassmaking, the Hot Shop and Warm Shop will offer Make Your Own (MYO) experiences, where participants can craft their own unique glass pieces. With spots for these sessions nearly fully booked, we encourage anyone interested to secure their place as soon as possible. Guests in attendance are also welcome and encouraged to observe the MYO experiences in action, gaining insight into the artistry behind glassmaking. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this hands-on, one-of-a-kind opportunity!
The Flame Shop and Cold Shop will be open to the public and will feature demonstrations throughout the day, giving visitors a chance to see artists in action. Staff will also be available to answer questions, making this event the perfect opportunity to learn about the tools, techniques, and passion behind the art.
A highlight of the Winter Open House is the exclusive holiday shopping experience. The gallery and shop will be filled with handmade treasures, including glass ornaments, candy canes, sculptures, and holiday décor. These unique, one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces make thoughtful gifts and stunning additions to any home.
“Tucson’s reputation as a premier glass destination exists because of the work happening at Sonoran Glass School,” said Paul Anders-Stout, Assistant Director. “We are eager to welcome in the public to learn more. If you’ve ever been interested in glass blowing, or are looking for unique gifts, please join us!”
