Sculpture-On-Campus Reception
Pima Community College invites the community to celebrate the unveiling of Steve Grater's new sculpture, "Arpeggio," as part of the Sculpture-On-Campus (SOC) program. This public art exhibition transforms the East Campus into a vibrant extension of the artist’s studio, showcasing contemporary sculptural works that inspire academic and creative conversation.
Steve Grater's "Arpeggio" is a striking piece crafted from rust-patinated steel and stainless steel. The sculpture honors the instinctive harmony of odd numbers, reflecting Grater's cathartic artistic process, which involves an exuberant physical engagement with unyielding materials. Through heat and pressure, he shapes rigid steel into organic forms, transcending the sometimes dissonant notes of his internal life into a fluidity that embodies aesthetic delight. "Arpeggio" resonates as visual music, its wide bands curved to evoke the pleasing reverberation of five joyful chordal notes plucked in succession.
