Western music and cowboy poetry are coming back to Green Valley!
The Arizona Chapter of the International Western Music Association is hosting the second annual Green Valley Roundup on Saturday, February 25, at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior, 555 S. La Canada, in Green Valley. Performances start at 12:00 p.m. High Noon.
The Green Valley Roundup is a showcase of cowboy music and poetry, performed on two stages by award-winning performers from across Arizona and beyond. This year's performers include:
*Igor Glenn, a lively entertainer from Phoenix, is the "Jazz Cowboy" who plays a mean slap bass and will perform with Tucsonan Evan Dain, who plays a jazzy four-string banjo. This Western Swing duo have toured the country with national music shows. Igor has performed with the New Christy Minstrels and has accompanied musicians such as Benny Goodman and John Denver.
*Carol Markstrom, whose album "Mile After Mile" received the Western Album of the Year award from the Academy of Western Artists, composes and performs ballads ranging from whimsical to bittersweet, inspired by Western landscapes. Carol will be performing with local musician Rusty Ford.
*Mike Dunn, an Arizona cowboy poet, lives in the San Tan Valley of Arizona and enjoys sharing his stories about ranch life in rhythmic form. Mike's Arizona heritage goes back to the 1800's and his granddad's ranch in the Whetstone Mountains southwest of Benson.
*Dan McCorison, whose song "Welcome To Wickenburg" won the IWMA's Song of the Year award, cut his teeth in the thriving folk music scene of his hometown Denver, Colorado. Dan has recorded five solo albums and has won numerous awards for his songwriting and singing. Dan currently lives with his wife June and trusty dog Daisy in Sun City.
Also performing in this year's Roundup is Desert Creek, a local band (Sherry Walker, Lawrence Severt, and John Paulson) whose wide musical interests include American country and western cowboy songs. They enjoy making music together with other area musicians at the Silver City JamBand shows in Green Valley.
Performers' CDs and light refreshments will be available for purchase.
Admission is $10 cash at the door.
