American Association of University Women Green Valley Branch March Program
Founded by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692, San Xavier del Bac Mission is the oldest intact European structure in Arizona. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. Its interior is filled with wonderful original statuary and mural paintings.
In 1978, a group of community leaders formed the Patronato San Xavier to promote the conservation of Mission San Xavier. In a five-year program, an international team of conservators cleaned, removed over-painting, and repaired the interior painted and sculptured art. Exterior preservation work continues today.
During the presentation at the general meeting, we will learn more about the restoration of this historic landmark.
