Birding with Jeff Babson, Pima Country Naturalist and owner of Sky Island tours. The mass movement of birds in spring and fall are truly phenomenal natural events, as millions of birds from to and from tropical wintering grounds to their breeding range in temperate forests, grasslands, and marshes. No other natural event stitches the planet together quite as well as does bird migration. In this presentation, we will explore bird migration – why and how they accomplish the feat, threats that they face on their journey, and other topics, using examples of North America birds. Meet at 8:30am North Entrance, The Empire Ranch, Hwy 83, between Milemarkers 39-40. to see the newly split Chihuahuan Meadowlark as well as the opportunity for Northern Harrier, other cool birds, and grassland Sparrows. We will caravan thru the ranch, stopping at key spots for birding opportunities. We'll end at 12:30 at the South Entrance, The Empire Ranch, Hwy 82
Owner of Sky Island Tours, an environmental education and eco-tour company, Jeff Babsos has led birding tours for the Tucson Botanical Gardens, Pima County Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and several birding festivals in southern Arizona.
