Join us for the opening reception of three new exhibits at DeGrazia’s Gallery in the Sun Museum. Experience the beauty and breadth of Tucson artist Ted DeGrazia’s work across three distinctive exhibitions.
DeGrazia’s Pastels
On view for the first time since 1978, this exhibition offers an overview of DeGrazia’s pastel works created between 1953 and 1978. More than half of the featured pieces have never before been displayed, making this a rare opportunity to see them. With subjects ranging from children and horses to tribal ceremonies and Madonnas, these soft yet vibrant works highlight the artist’s expressive use of color and texture in an often-overlooked medium.
Ceramic Paintings of Ted DeGrazia
This exhibit presents DeGrazia’s figurative paintings on ceramic plates and sculptural forms. Beloved themes - including children, angels, horses, roadrunners, and petroglyphs - take on new life in this unconventional medium, blending painting and sculpture.
Brush Drawings of Ted DeGrazia
Created primarily in the 1950s, this collection showcases expressive brush drawings made without pen, pencil, or charcoal. With a few bold strokes, DeGrazia captured the energy of children, musicians, ballerinas, cowboys, miners, and horses. Dating from 1945 to 1963, these works highlight his mastery of gesture and movement.
Opening Reception Details:
The exhibits open with a free reception from 5–7 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025. Guests are invited to enjoy light refreshments while exploring DeGrazia’s artistry and the stunning adobe architecture of the Gallery in the Sun, built by the artist’s own hands.
All three exhibitions will remain on view through January 28, 2026.
