Beautiful: The Carole King Musical Lights Up the Stage at Arts Express Theatre Nov. 3 - 19

There’s “Some Kind of Wonderful” happening at Arts Express Theatre with the Tony and Grammy Award-Winning Broadway hit, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, running weekends November 3 – 19. Weaving a “Tapestry” of Grammy-winner, Oscar-winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carole King’s life, this stunning new musical follows her humble beginnings to her rise to stardom, her rocky marriage and formative friendships, and the highlights of her fascinating life story through the music of her life. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Once just an ordinary Brooklyn girl with wicked smarts, an uncanny ear for music, chutzpah, and passion, Carole King (Diane Bertrand-Goldsmith) sets off at the young age of sixteen to sell her first song in New York City. In desperate need of a lyricist to keep her music career going, Carole meets a college student, Gerry Goffin (Tommy Irish), and not only do writing sparks fly, but the romantic kind do too. The couple is soon married and with a chance meeting at the Brill Building, Carole and Gerry meet and befriend another young lyricist, Cynthia Weil (Danae Dorame), who partners with the charming songwriter Barry Mann (Charlie Hall). The two writing pairs are soon in fierce competition with their chart-topping hits. With such number one hits for Carole and Gerry as “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “The Loco-Motion,” and “One Fine Day,” as well as “Uptown,” “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling,” and “On Broadway” from Cynthia and Barry, life seems like it can’t get better. But when Carole’s life—and marriage—begins to crack, Carole must make the difficult decision to leave Gerry, take their children, and start a new life for herself. Digging deep and with encouragement from her friends and mother, Carole branches out to find her own voice, becoming not only sole writer but singer of her own music.
