AET Presents Rowdy Musical Comedy, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”

We’re “gonna whomp and stomp, and we’ll whoop it up” with The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the multi-Tony nominated, hifalutin, musical comedy, at Arts Express Theatre February 9 – 25! Performances run Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Miss Mona Stangley (Tiff Jensen) proudly runs a respectable, cozy chicken ranch (brothel) in Texas, frequented by governors, senators, and victorious college football teams alike. She’s even got the local Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd (Carlos “Charlie” Hall) on her side, and is known for running one of the better “pleasure palaces” around. Things are humming along fine, until the local upstart television celebrity Melvin P. Thorpe (Preston Hatch) turns the TV cameras Mona’s way, launching a righteous crusade against her and her whorehouse. Now, it’s tradition that when the Texas Aggies football team wins, they celebrate in style at Miss Mona’s, accompanied by their own Senator (Rob Jensen). Traditions must be upheld, so as the Aggies are settling in with the girls, Melvin and his TV cronies raid the ranch, and the Governor (Brian Doig) claims he was drugged and had no knowledge with a fancy “Sidestep” speech/musical number. With the heat turning up on the brothel, will Miss Mona get the support she needs to survive, or will the tide turn against her and her girls? From stage to film fame and with a book by Texas author Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, as well as music and lyrics by Carol Hall, this fun-loving, upbeat musical received four Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Music and Lyrics and was a multi-Tony award nominee. “No lies,” you won’t want to miss The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
