AET Presents Dolly Parton’s Hit Musical, “9 to 5”

Pour yourself a cup of ambition and get ready for Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5: The Musical,” taking control of the stage at Arts Express Theatre November 1-17! This hit musical has all the charm, humor, and heart from the blockbuster movie, with added inspiration and sparkle from music and lyrics by the multi-Grammy-Award winning Dolly Parton herself! Shows run November 1-17 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2 p.m., with two Thursday evening performances at 7 p.m. It’s 1979, and Franklin Hart (Michael Stewart) is enough to drive his employees crazy, especially the women who work for him. Violet Newstead (Diane Bertrand-Goldsmith), an ambitious office manager and Doralee Rhodes (Danae Dorame), a spunky Texan secretary, have been putting up with Hart’s misogynistic ways at the office for years. When doe-eyed, newly separated Judy Bernly (Caroline Murphy) arrives on the scene, Violet takes her under her wing and agrees to train Judy, despite her lack of work skills. In the meantime, Hart’s loyal Executive Secretary, Roz Keith (Amy Williams), is keeping her eagle eye on everyone in the office. Violet, Doralee, and Judy lament over Hart’s despicable treatment at the office, and fantasize about how they would “do him in.” The next day, the distracted Violet accidentally puts rat poison in Hart’s coffee, and when Roz overhears them talking about it, she and Hart decide to play a trick and make the ladies think he died. Once they discover Hart is alive, the situation quickly devolves and the three have no choice but to take Hart prisoner until they can figure out a way out of their crazy mess. With hits like “9 to 5,” “Shine Like the Sun,” and “Get Out and Stay Out,” don’t miss this film turned multi-Tony and Drama Desk nominated musical theatre favorite. With a dazzling score and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a witty book by Patricia Resnick, based on the screenplay by Resnick and Colin Higgins, you’ll want to hustle on over to get your tickets today! “9 to 5: The Musical” is Directed by Dana Milne, with Music Direction by Susan Stokes and Choreography by Simone Jolivet-Manuel.
