The Center for Art in Wood presents The Spoon Gram Project with Kate Hawes

Join the Center for Art in Wood for a talk with woodworker and craft writer Kate Hawes, whose Spoon Gram Project realizes their research into the relationship between carvers and their material, explores the phenomenon of spoon swapping, and how craft practice can be a tool for building an artistic community. Spoon carving has exploded in popularity in recent years thanks to virtual carving meetups and the need for very few tools.

Based in the Catskill Mountains of New York, Hawes has taught woodworking at a number of institutions, including Anderson Ranch, the Craft Students League, Peters Valley School of Craft, and the American Folk Art Museum. A woodworker for over 25 years, they recently received their MA in Critical Craft Studies from Warren Wilson College.
