Dear Sessions

One night only on Friday, October 28, 2022, Attack Theatre, now in its 28th season, invites you to a salon-style evening of music and dance that will move you. Join this first show of the new season in Lawrenceville, featuring Grammy® winner and cellist Dave Eggar, NPR 2020 Song of the Year singer-songwriter Amber Rubarth, and Max ZT–who NPR calls “the Hendrix of the hammered dulcimer.”

Artistic Director Peter Kope says, “Dear Sessions is Attack Theatre’s initiation to you.” It’s a collaboration with our long-time musical partner and Grammy winning cellist Dave Eggar. It’s a musical message from Max ZT and singer-songwriter Amber Rubarth, whose heartfelt, witty compositions made her an NPR Song of the Year artist. It’s a dance offering performed by Isabella Bergamin, Lydia Clinton, Michele de la Reza, Ethan Gwynn, Miranda Nichols, and Sarah Zielinski in Attack Theatre’s new studio in Lawrenceville (212 45th St). Come share with us this session of dance and music as we open this invitation—together.

Dave Eggar and Artistic Directors Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza have been working as a creative team since 1999. “Our first work together for Attack Theatre was a zany piece about cars, and driving, and the road less travelled performed at the Byham Theater in collaboration with Squonk Opera” says Kope. Since then, the trio has toured the world with their unique form of dance and music performances from Texas to Japan to the Avignon Festival in France. “The three of us like to take risks and the trust level is so high that we are able to create these fearless experiences” adds de la Reza.

Choreographed Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza with the Attack Theatre company dancers, the threads of this musical tapestry are weaved together by the anagram inspired, DEAR, that stands for Dave Eggar and Amber Rubarth. When asked about the driving inspiration behind this collaboration, de la Reza says, “In all Attack Theatre performances we start with the people in the room. For DEAR Sessions, we gathered together to create anagram inspirations from the musicians’ names. The surprisingly many words that were formed serve as a guiding metaphor for each of the vignettes of music and dance.”

VIP ticket holders are invited to an early event that features artist chats, a toast to the season, and a glimpse into this creative partnership and process.
