Portrait Painting Workshop
This workshop will teach you tools and techniques to enable you to paint expressive portraits. It is a one day workshop and by the end of the workshop you will have painted a portrait from a life model. You will learn how to observe, measure and use paint in order to bring the composition to life.
The workshop is made up of two sessions. In the first session we will discuss colour theory, colour palette, value theory, basic proportions of the head, how to use comparative method to capture an accurate likeness of the sitter, applying paint, optical blending, edge control and technical information regarding materials.
In the second session we will apply the techniques from the first session to paint a portrait from a life model.
Students are required to be familiar with the medium of their choice and be prepared to use an easel either standing or sitting down. Prior experience of portrait painting is welcomed but not a pre-requisite.
Each class is limited to 8 students in order to have a good view of the sitter and allow the tutor to
