Imagine, you awaken and see the world differently. Not all the time, but when you really look hard. Rebecca Quigley combines fragments of traditional weaving methods and materials in nontraditional ways, as a palette to express the view of her surroundings, nature, the city, secret thoughts, and memories. “Sleepers Awaken” offers a momentary glimpse of another world: awaken, imagine, and everything is revealed to you.
Trained as a weaver in the 1970s, Rebecca stitches, embellishes and combines wool, silk, cotton, or linen. She also makes paper from plant fibers growing in her garden, and uses Hanji, Korean mulberry paper, which can be felted in layers, stitched, shaped, and treated like a textile.
See “Sleepers Awaken!” by fiber artist, Rebecca Quigley and find out the visions behind her work at the opening reception during St. Pete’s Second Saturday Art Walk. Interact with the work of more than 27 local artists, enjoy refreshments and hear the music of Bud Good. The show is on view throughout the month of March.
This event is produced with the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, Creative Pinellas and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners.
