An Evening with Josh Rouse, special guest Ella Jet, host Shawn Kyle

Songwriter Club at the Jack Kerouac House is a series bringing national and international touring artists, as well as musician outreach to the historic home of Jack Kerouac, in St.Petersburg Florida. There are very limited seating and capacity for this songwriter listening room series, as the artists perform in Kerouac's living room with the audience seated in the living room, and additional seating stretching out into the enclosed patio. Please join us for a night of songs, and stories in this historic atmosphere.Josh Rouse “Like a baseball player who quietly hits 30 home runs every year or a golfer who regularly finishes in the Top Ten, Josh Rouse's continued streak of excellence is easy to ignore and maybe even downplay a little” -- Tim Sendra, Allmusic.com Hailed as “a talent to outrank Ryan Adams or Conor Oberst” by Uncut and praised for his “spare and easy sounding guitar songs” by NPR, Rouse first emerged in 1998 with his debut album, ‘Dressed Up Like Nebraska,’ which Billboard called a “dark horse gem.” Over the next two decades, he’d go on to release a steady stream of critically lauded records that would solidify his status as one of the his generation’s most acclaimed songwriters, both in the US and Europe, where he’s lived on and off since 2004. Q called his breakout album, ‘1972,’ “the most intimate record of the year,” while Rolling Stone dubbed his follow up, ‘Nashville,’ “a landmark album,” and EW described 2013’s ‘The Happiness Waltz’ as “a big contender for Rouse’s best work.” In 2014, Rouse won a Goya Award (the Spanish equivalent of an Oscar) for best song for “Do You Really Want To Be In Love,” from the film ‘La Gran Familia Española. Special Guest Ella Jet Ella Jet was born to sing. Through the years she rose to prominence in the St Petersburg, FL music scene and her name became synonymous with dreamy vibes and soulful tenderness She started playing guitar at only 8 yrs old and almost immediately started writing her own songs and performing shows for the neighborhood kids. Obsessed with music and unable to focus on anything else She dropped out of high school at 15 and started playing in clubs locally. Ella Jet has been compared to a few big time national singers like Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey, but she just smiles and takes it all in stride. She has grown into her own voice and her writing has matured beyond her years. She makes music her own way - honest and moving. When audiences see her perform live, they become visibly transformed. Transformed by that voice. The songbird. Always on key always with a story to tell. They’ll always be another melody to sing, for that little dress up queen. Man, that girl was born to sing. Your Host, Shawn Kyle Host of Songwriter Club, Shawn Kyle is a multiple Best of the Bay Award Winner and 14X SXSW Austin official showcasing artist; involved with both the Americana revival of the early 2000's and also the Psychedelic Rock and Garage revival of the 2010's. Kyle is currently working on an EP of new songs co written with Grammy Award winner Jim Lauderdale. A cash bar by donation will be open before and in between the performances. Proceeds from the show support the touring artist, as well as the Kerouac House nonprofit.
