This workshop will introduce teachers to the use of historical newspapers, interviews, photographs and other primary sources to examine the Holocaust.
By using newspaper reportage and other primary and secondary source material that is contemporary to the events being studied, students will gain a greater understanding of the historical context in which these events occurred.
Featuring guest speaker Harry Heuman, Second Generation and guest presenter Kristi Carroll, Associate Educator, Florida Holocaust Museum
Harry’s parents were survivors of the Holocaust. Subsequent to his father’s liberation from Dachau and his mother’s liberation from Auschwitz, Harry was born in a Displaced Persons Camp in southern Germany.
Attendees will receive:
- Bearing Witness, a new Newspaper in Education curriculum supplement from the Tampa Bay Times NIE program and the Commissioner’s Task Force on Holocaust Education.
- Sevek and the Holocaust: The Boy Who Refused to Die by Holocaust survivor Sidney Finkel
- Certificate of attendance
