The Duke of Sutherland and his 2nd wife, The Duchess of Sutherland, Mary Caroline "May" Blair, had lives worthy of a period drama. Traveling to the upper Pinellas peninsula from England in the late 1800s, these Victorian celebrities married at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Dunedin. Settling in what would become North Pinellas County, they built a home near Lake Tarpon and became local residents.
Palm Harbor Museum's newest exhibit, Marriage & Mayhem in the Sunshine State—opening to members in a Preview Reception Meet-and-Greet on February 14th and opening to the public on February 17 as part of the museum's first 2024 free Family Intergenerational Discovery Day—delves into this global drama.
Join the exhibit creator Anne-Maire Nurnberger on Tuesday, February 27th at 7 PM at the historic Church of the Good Shepherd in Dunedin where the Duke and Duchess of Sutherland were married, to learn how the actions they took that began one of the biggest scandals in British society—rocking the establishment and upsetting Queen Victoria herself!
