DESCRIPTION
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to blind contour drawing, a technique that enhances artistic confidence, observational skills, and expressive mark-making. Whether you are a seasoned artist looking to develop a more natural, organic drawing style or someone hoping to loosen up your approach to drawing, this workshop will guide you in cultivating a more intuitive and exploratory art practice.
By removing the pressure of achieving “perfect” drawings, this exercise fosters a sense of presence, patience, and creative problem-solving—valuable skills that can extend beyond the sketchbook.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This workshop is meant to be a creative offering for local veterans looking for an artistic outlet. However, anyone interested in cultivating a creative practice, embracing the therapeutic value of creativity, trying something new, and connecting with others in a shared creative space may sign up. No prior art experience is required—just an open mind and a willingness to explore new ways of seeing and drawing.

Veterans are invited to participate for free.
Non-veterans may participate at $35/ticket.
Anyone is invited to sponsor a veteran/donate the cost of participation for $35.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ashley Shanahan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and art therapist based in Monmouth County, with extensive experience supporting individuals through creative expression. As a clinician, Ashley has worked with diverse populations, including Veterans, to help them explore healing through art. Passionate about the connection between creativity and mental well-being, Ashley facilitates workshops that encourage self-expression, personal growth, and meaning.
Ashley’s approach emphasizes process over perfection, guiding participants to develop confidence in their artistic voice. In addition to their clinical work, Ashley is a lifelong artist who values creativity as both a personal and professional practice. She believes in fostering a welcoming, judgment-free space where participants can explore their artistic journey with curiosity and openness.
