Shakespeare’s The Tempest Makes Landfall at Morristown High School
The award-winning Morristown High School Theatre Program is proud to present their fall drama production, The Tempest, the tragicomedy by William Shakespeare with four performances running November 17 - 19, 2023.
The play will feature four live performances, two evening shows and two matinees.

Some background on the play:
While many classical literature fans are familiar with the acclaimed play opening with a shipwreck, let’s just say, theatergoers will be in for a futuristic surprise. Here’s a hint…what happens when Shakespeare meets Dune? Well, you get Morristown High School’s rendition of The Tempest.
In a post-climate apocalypse, a scientist, Prospera, causes an airship to crash so she can take revenge upon her enemies. What follows are exchanges between characters that will make you both laugh and think. The Tempest presents topics that remain relevant 400 years after the play was written, like revenge and forgiveness, abuse of power and the importance of individual freedoms.
Morristown High School Play Director, George LaVigne, shares why he chose the play saying, “In our current ecological crisis, greed and ambition trump scientific fact and progress, threatening our very existence. The Tempest warns us of the peril in closing ourselves off from the world, said LaVigne. It is also fitting, in that it is the 400th anniversary of the official publication of Shakespeare's plays, and The Tempest is the opening play of the First Folio.”
